Alex Hibbert is the world record-holding polar traveller who has skied further on an unsupported Arctic journey than anyone in history. In the winter of 2015 and not due to finish until the start of summer, three men will travel one of the most iconic polar routes: The North West Passage. Alex Hibbert and his team will ski, walk and swim 1800 miles fully unsupported (no resupplies or power-assistance) across a treacherous terrain of sea ice! Journey Summary
Taking on a 3,000 nautical mile row, across the Atlantic, over Christmas and New Year is no mean feat. Kiran and Jay of Oarsome Odyssey have had to make many preparations with safety and communications playing a very important part in the success of their independent row. It was great to help out local boys Kiran and Jay this year as they made their preparations. We provided them with potentially life saving equipment in the form of PLBs, satellite phones and trackers. Satellite Trackers are great devices to have on hand to let followers back home know where you are but if you do come to an emergency situation, at sea or on land, you cannot beat a PLB to call for help to the emergency services. Here's a summary of the satellite communications equipment the boys are carrying on board... McMurdo Fast Find 220 PLB £148 ex VAT Our...
Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams in the UK and around the world. This work involves traveling to remote areas. Therefore, traditional communication infrastructure does not exist. Additionally, disaster stricken areas' communications infrastructure is destroyed. We caught up with Team Rubicon’s Tech & Innovation Manager, Chris Lyon to see how the equipment provided by GTC supports the work they do. Team Rubicon On 25th April 2015, an earthquake measuring 7.8 hit the Kathmandu area in Nepal. General Sir Nick Parker, Former Commander of British Land Forces and Team Rubicon Global Board Member, put out a call to action asking UK veterans to volunteer their time and skills to provide aid in Nepal. He quickly pulled together an impressive team (including a large proportion of Ghurkas). Each member was capable of providing medical aid, search and rescue support....
