BGAN HDR is the new BGAN service from Inmarsat that offers even faster streaming rates for BGAN terminals and almost global coverage.
The BGAN HDR service will be used in conjunction with the new Explorer 710 terminal to provide the fastest satellite data speeds on the Inmarsat BGAN service. It offers streaming rates of around 650kbps at full channel on the I-4 network and during testing reached speeds of up to 100kbps.
'Native' bonding is not currently available but by using an 'external' bonding solution a streaming rate of 1.5Mbps can be maintained.
The BGAN HDR service supports four streaming rates and this is reflected in the pricing options that are currently available:
- Full channel symmetric. This is the premium service and offers a significantly increased streaming rate in each direction.
- Half channel symmetric. This option offers similar streaming rates to the existing BGAN X-Stream service but is much better value for money.
- Full channel asymmetric. This was created in response to customer and market demand and provides a significantly increased streaming rate in the return direction but with a much slower rate in the forward direction.
- Half channel asymmetric. This option offers a similar price point to the existing 256Kbps service but is likely to deliver a greater throughput (during testing it delivered up to 380Kbps).
Introductory offer: If you buy before the 31st December 2013 the full channel BGAN HDR service will be available for the same price as the current BGAN X-Stream service!
