GlobalFIX™ V4 Key Features:

Activation

Category I beacons such as the ACR EPIRB GlobalFix V4 Cat 1 are designed to be automatically deployed and activated in the event of a vessel sinking. The beacon may also be manually taken out of the category I bracket and activated manually or immersed in water to activate automatically.

GPS Transmission

Upon initiation of a distress call, the GlobalFIX V4’s built-in GPS will fix your position to within a few meters and then utilizes a powerful 406 MHz signal to relay your distress call to orbiting satellites. When triggered, the GlobalFIX™ V4 broadcasts a unique registered distress signal that not only tells rescuers where you are, but who you are. This is typically within 5 minutes, but can be up to 45 minutes depending on satellite coverage.

An additional feature is the 121.5 MHz secondary homing transmitter which means that once Search and Rescue teams have been deployed, they are able to home in on your exact location. The rescue is assisted by a highly visible, energy efficient LED strobe built into the ACR EPIRB.

Coverage

EPIRBs have been proven, tried and tested in some of the world's most remote locations and treacherous conditions. Even in extreme conditions and situations, the GlobalFIX™ V4 activates easily.

Subscription Free

Unlike most satellite enabled notification devices, the GlobalFIX™ V4 requires no monthly or annual subscription, making it one of the most cost effective GPS enabled emergency beacons available for long term use. The GlobalFIX™ V4 does not rely on commercial call centres, meaning your request for help is received directly by Search and Rescue authorities.

Strobe Light

This ACR EPIRB has an LED Strobe light to increase visibility at night.

Operation and Battery Life

Once an emergency request has been initiated, the GlobalFIX™ V4’s lithium power cell offers a minimum 48hr continuous operation and a 10-year battery storage life. Additionally, the ACR GlobalFIX™ has the all-new user-replaceable battery pack has a 10-year replacement interval, reducing the overall ownership cost and simplifying replacement when required. The battery must also be replaced if the EPIRB has been activated.

False Alarms Prevention

The ACR GlobalFIX™ V4 has a keypad with protective cover to prevent false alarms. Please note: This EPIRB should only be used in situations of grave and imminent danger to life. False alerts endanger lives and cause expensive disruption to Search & Rescue services. Deliberate misuse of the device could result in a penalty.

Registration

Registering your ACR EPIRB is required by law in most countries. Registering is very important because should your beacon ever be activated, it is how Search and Rescue Teams will know who you are, and contacts provided may be able to supply information about your specific travel plans. In the absence of this information, it may take longer for a search-and-rescue operation to begin.

Some national authorities require a completed registration application form to be submitted by letter or fax, others offer an online registration. For more information, visit the emergency beacon registration database IBRD at www.406registration.com and also www.cospas-sarsat.org. The addresses of the national authorities are listed on these sites.

UK customers can register their device at https://www.gov.uk/register-406-beacons

Programming

All PLB’s and EPIRBs sold by GTC are pre-programmed with the UK country code. Whilst they will function anywhere around the world, the initial point of contact during an emergency situation would be the UK Search & Rescue authorities with whom the device would be registered. Please contact us if you wish to have your EPIRB shipped with configuration for use in a country other than UK.
