Satellite Phone and Satellite Terminal Rental Guide

At Global Telesat Communications we have a range of the latest satellite phone handsets and terminals available to rent. Our rental range includes the Inmarsat IsatPhone Pro, Iridium 9555, Iridium Extreme, Thuraya XT and Thrane & Thrane Explorer 500 satellite broadband terminal.

Our satellite communications rental equipment is available for next day delivery and we can provide frequent traffic updates so you can keep track of your spending. We offer basic satellite airtime plans for rentals with emergency use only in mind or plans with inclusive minutes for those who know they will be frequently using their sat phone.

Rental vs Purchase

Satellite phones and terminals are often used in remote areas where traditional methods of communication are impaired or non-existent. If you venture into these areas infrequently it can prove extremely expensive to buy communications equipment to enable you stay in touch with your friends, family and the emergency services should you need them. With satellite phones and terminals ranging in price from £325 to £2,995 ex VAT plus airtime charges many short-term users of this equipment find that our rental service is a more viable and cost effective option.

However, if you plan to use a satellite phone frequently you may find it more cost effective and convenient to purchase the equipment. The cost of sat phones has fallen significantly over the past few years and the lowest cost phone on the market, the IsatPhone Pro starts from just £325 ex VAT. Airtime options are also more flexible than in the past with pay-as-you-go airtime being valid for up to 2 years on some networks, meaning you won't lose airtime because you are only using it infrequently.

Do I need a satellite phone or terminal?

If you primarily need equipment for making voice calls then satellite phone rental is the best option for you. Satellite phones can also be used for data services but if you are planning on regularly transferring large amounts of data we would recommend satellite broadband terminal rental.

Our rental satellite terminal, the Thrane & Thrane Explorer 500 offers speeds of up to 448/464 kbps (send/receive) and up to 128 kbps for streaming IP used for live video transmission.

Which satellite network will suit me best?

Currently Iridium is the only network service provider to offer completely pole to pole global coverage although Inmarsat offer global coverage excluding the poles. Thuraya offers a reliable coverage over Europe, Central Africa and large parts of Southern Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia as well as Australia.

Accessories

All our satellite phone rentals come in a durable Peli case with a mains charger, car charger and spare battery. Should you require solar chargers or additional batteries this can be arranged for an additional charge.
