The Globalstar GSP-1700 is the smallest and lightest Globalstar satellite phone and has an ergonomic design for user comfort and convenience. Weighing only 200g the GSP-1700 is easy to travel with and the antenna stows into the handset when not in use for even more compact carrying. The GSP-1700 is available in Copper, Silver or Red and has a colour display and offer both voice and data capabilities.

Please note that Globalstar's satellite constellation is currently suffering from degradation that will affect your ability to make and receive phone calls and the quality of your call. Until Globalstar complete the launch of their new satellite constellation sometime in 2010 GTC would recommend using Iridium or Thuraya satellite phones unless you have a particular reason to use a Globalstar phone.

About Globalstar Satellite Phones

Established in 1991, Globalstar is a US company offering near worldwide coverage of voice and data services. At present its voice satellites are suffering from severe degradation and as a result Global Telesat Communications does not recommend use of the Globalstar voice network. However, from July 2010 Globalstar will begin the launch of its second generation satellites which will vastly improve the quality and features of the Globalstar voice network. These LEO satellites mean calls on phones such as the Globalstar GSP-1700 Satellite Phone will be clear and without the delays sometimes experienced by satellite networks which use higher orbiting geosynchronous satellites.

The second generation satellites will also increase data speeds from 9.6kbps at present to 256 kbps as well as enabling new features such as GPS, SMS, push to talk, video and voice broadcasting.
